Membertou Radio – CJIJ-FM

C99 FM, also known as Membertou Radio – CJIJ-FM, broadcast from Membertou and promoted and celebrated the traditions of the Mi’kmaq people. This station started in 2003 on 99.9 MHz FM with a Native Type B license and played a variety of rock, including new rock, hard rock, music from Indigenous performers and Canadian rock. The station aired Native music, cultural and language programs to show its dedication to the heritage of the community. The Membertou Radio Association Inc. owned CJIJ-FM which was managed by Dawn Wells and featured on-air talent like Rich Samuel and the well-known Aggie Baby (Agnes Gould). Tupsi Drive in Membertou is where the station maintained its studios. In January 2021, CJIJ-FM was scheduled to stop broadcasting after the Membertou Radio Association requested that its license be voluntarily revoked and this happened officially in February 2021. Even though CJIJ-FM closed its broadcasts, the impact it had on Indigenous communities in Atlantic Canada is still big. https://www.wikipedia.org/wiki/CJIJ-FM provides information about Christian FM. Membertou Radio CJIJFM is available for download from the band council’s website.
